If you run after the herd you always end up walking in the shit!

If you run after the herd you always end up walking in the shit!

Those of you who follow me will have already seen that I have been searching lately. Or haven't seen anything at all :-)

This is because I am struggling with a tough dilemma.
Do I keep making 'pretty images' that people or my followers like and which therefore satisfy myself and the viewer time and time again?
Or do I go looking for something that challenges me and makes people reflect?
Do I keep lying awake at night worrying about the bills that need to be paid or do I not care about that and keep experimenting and making things that the viewer doesn't understand at times and therefore wouldn't want to pay a penny for?

Making art is a search process. It is hammering, chiselling, turning everything upside down, questioning yourself completely and, if necessary, starting all over again. From scratch! (Isn't that life in general?)
Because what's the point of making beautiful images that sell well if you keep repeating yourself? That, in my view, is not an art. That's lying to yourself.

Actually, I have known the answers to these questions for a long time. I just need to have the balls to do it because if you run after the herd you always end up walking in the shit!
